Thanksgiving

There were eight of us for Thanksgiving dinner this year. Obviously, we don't get the day off but we still like to celebrate it on Thursday anyway.

To tell you the truth, having the house to myself all day makes preparing Thanksgiving dinner a breeze. No distractions or kids underfoot = a stress-free cooking experience.

This year I was most thankful for FINALLY finding a shop that carries Libby's pumpkin so I don't have to import anymore (even though the Lanyons hate pumpkin pie).

This pretty Thanksgiving cake was made by a friend. I loved the delicate leaves and realistic acorns!

There's no such thing as Black Friday out here (not that I mind!). It's always difficult to explain the violent Black Friday news to shocked Brits. I dread when they ask. Nobody gets why we spend one day being thankful for all the stuff we have and the next day trying to kill each other over all the stuff we don't have! I, for one, am glad to be well out of it. As an alternative, my sister-in-law and I spent Black Friday exploring the beautiful town of Rye.

What a beautiful cake. I make a point of not going out on Black Friday and just spending the day relaxing at home or spending some time outdoors if the weather is nice. If there are some good internet prices we may purchase a couple of things. There is a whole movement of making it buy nothing day http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buy_Nothing_Day.

I LOVE how you contrast your description for Thanksgiving against the lawless institution of Black Friday, a ritual I will never quite understand.

And whipping up a Thanksgiving feast with everyone tucked away at school and work sounds quite dreamy.
